Went to Sam Bond's tonight. Very far from the best time I've ever had there. Noisy, crowded, not many friends there. It was Last Friday Artwalk in the Whit, and in addition to the not-very-hip hipsters that always turn out for that, there was a band scheduled at the pub that attracted an even larger crowd of people who were just dripping with post-modern ironic sophistication. On the one hand, they are harmless, on the other, they irritate me. I keep telling myself: "They are having fun, in their own way." I just wish they'd have it elsewhere, or more quietly.
As I left, I was reminded of Yogi Berra's comment on Toots Shor's restaurant in NY: "Nobody goes there anymore, it's too crowded."
