I started a LinkedIn profile (this is Beth P.'s fault) which quickly became a source of some mirth for me. I mean, I'm not looking for a job, nor is it likely that I'd take one. So I felt free to play with the system and post whatever I wanted to. I intend to continue playing with my profile in hopes of making myself out to be a real oddball. (I know...)
The first bit of gratuitous silliness just arrived. As a result of LinkedIn not allowing me to proceed without choosing some basic stuff, including an 'Industry', I am currently working at A.M. Brosius (company) in the 'Think Tanks' industry. So today LinkedIn very helpfully suggested that I apply for a job. "Vice President for Education" at the _Hope Street Group_. (DC Metro area) I have no idea who they are, but I can imagine. Maybe I should send them a resume.
Sometime back I accidentally wound up with a BranchOut app on my Facebook page. It's like LinkedIn, but way stupider. At LI it's easy to put things in and take them out. At BO, it's complex and not intuitive. Typical FB, circuitous and over-complex. Also, it loads slower than any other FB app I've tried. Not that I've tried many, most of them are games.
As far as FB in general... well, I decided that, since I'm on the site for purposes of publicizing my writing, I gotta lose the whole 'I don't want to be an ad man' attitude and go whole hog. I started slowly, pushing the 'Add friend' button on every suggested friend with 30+ mutuals. I built a whole ad, waited till I hit 300 'friends', and posted it. Nothing. Okay, then, lower the bar: 25 Mutuals? or just jump in and send requests to everyone FB suggests? I can weed out and unfriend the racists and the fascists later. I'm gonna start posting my drawings and scribbles as 'entertainment'. Maybe I'll have to get a digicam and start using my expensive college education for something. If my visual content is interesting enough, maybe I will get more attention to the old Author Page, and maybe sell some books.
The last bits of Viasmae are outlined: bad dreams and bad moments for Selos, and a darker vision yet of the plot against the Commonwealth.
FINALLY: those who purport to know say that a self-published writer absolutely must use social media and especially blog a lot. I will start by upping my contributions to this forum, and publicizing my writings here on other media. I need to post something here at least once a week, and more if I can do it.
Friends, this gig could easily become a full-time vocation.
